Sencha Fukamushi

From the renowned tea fields of Yame in Fukuoka, this Fukamushi Sencha reveals the gentler side of Japan’s green tea tradition. Fukamushi, or deep steaming, extends the steaming process beyond that of regular Sencha, gently breaking down the leaf structure. The result is a fine, almost powdery leaf that brews quickly, releasing rich color and flavor into the cup.

Unlike many Sencha, this tea carries noticeably lower acidity, giving it a softer and rounder profile. The umami is mild rather than overpowering, but the liquor retains a bold, full-bodied intensity that fills the palate with balance and ease. The steaming process also smooths the edges of the flavor, making it particularly accessible for those who usually find Sencha sharp or brisk. Its liquor shines with a deep green hue, almost opaque, a hallmark of the Fukamushi style. The taste is simultaneously gentle yet strong, offering satisfying depth with every sip.

This Sencha is ideal for those drawn to the richness of Japanese green tea but who prefer lower acidity and a softer umami. Its bold yet clean flavor makes it both approachable for newcomers and rewarding for seasoned tea drinkers.

Try brewing with cooler water to highlight lingering sweetness, or with hotter water to lean into its full, invigorating body.
