Benifuuki wakocha
Sippers, take note! Those familiar with tea appreciate the unique story and character behind every leaf—and Benifuuki Wakocha is no exception. Originating from Kyushu, the southwestern jewel of Japan’s main islands and the historical cradle of Japanese tea cultivation and culture, this tea embodies centuries of tradition. While tea seeds were first planted in Kyushu during the early Kamakura period (12th century), the Benifuuki cultivar itself is a modern marvel, created in 1965 as a cross between Benihomare and MakuraCd86 plants. Renowned for its natural disease resistance and exceptional methylated catechin content, Benifuuki uniquely combines quality, resilience, and a flavor profile unlike any other.
This Benifuuki Wakocha comes from a lovingly tended organic tea garden and delights with its smooth, rich malty body, enhanced by natural sweetness and pronounced notes of ripe, dark fruits, warm cinnamon, and luscious brown sugar. Tea connoisseurs may also sense a cooling menthol-like aspect, reminiscent of the Ruby 18 cultivar, but here it unfolds with a distinctly fruity fragrance. Adding complexity, subtle hints of chamomile and mild herbs lend a delicate floral nuance, while the aftertaste offers a gentle, sweet tannin balance, rounding out the tea’s harmonious, well-balanced body. This makes it an excellent choice for those seeking a softer, nuanced black tea experience that can be enjoyed neat or with milk.
Whether exploring Japanese teas for the first time or deepening a seasoned palate, this Benifuuki Wakocha offers a journey of rich heritage and exceptional flavor in every cup.
