Ashfall Teapot

The world of tea is built upon a continuous collaboration between human skill and the forces of nature. Growers nurture the plants, refine processing techniques, and carefully store the finished tea, while nature provides the soil, climate, seasons, and the passage of time. Together, they shape every cup.

The world of teaware reflects this same beautiful partnership, and nowhere is it more evident than in the wood-fired kiln, where the potter's craftsmanship meets the unpredictable character of flame and ash. During firing, natural minerals and wood ash interact with the porcelain, creating surfaces rich in variation and impossible to reproduce. Each teapot emerges from the kiln with its own identity.

Ren Pengfei’s work adds a further layer of individuality. A renowned specialist in wood-fired teaware, he shapes each piece entirely by hand with remarkable precision. While his mastery ensures harmony of form and function, no two pieces are ever exactly alike, each bearing the subtle variations of the artist’s hand before the kiln leaves its own unique mark.

Each piece is available only once. We have photographed every individual item, and customers can choose the exact piece they want by selecting the corresponding number shown in the product photos.

About the artist

Ren Pengfei was born in Shandong in 1985 and graduated from Jingdezhen Ceramic University in 2009. He is a National Level-1 Ceramic Craft Technician—the highest vocational skills certification in China—and an official inheritor of Jingdezhen’s intangible cultural heritage tradition of wood-fired kiln firing.

Since graduating, Ren has dedicated himself entirely to wood-fired ceramics. He works independently through every stage of production, from clay preparation, wheel throwing, and trimming to firing and restoration.

His pieces are defined by a distinctive personal style and a highly refined command of wood-firing. Ren built his own wood kiln, personally arranges each piece inside the kiln, and oversees the firing himself. His work is widely appreciated by ceramic professionals and collectors alike.
