Shou Mei 2026

Perhaps the most extraordinary quality of Shou Mei is its ability to make something as abstract as time tangible. Few teas transform as dramatically throughout their lifetime. Celebrated for its vibrant freshness when newly produced and equally prized for its remarkable aging potential, Shou Mei offers a different experience with every passing season.

These leaves present Shou Mei at the very beginning of its journey, when freshness is at its peak and the deeper layers exist only as a promise of what is yet to come. The clear golden liquor opens with a lively, almost sparkling freshness: a watery sweetness and a delicate, refreshing bitterness reminiscent of fresh cucumber skin, accompanied by a subtle balsamic peppery spice. As these youthful notes settle, they give way to the rounded sweetness of lightly toasted wheat grains, which balances the initial profile and lingers long after each sip, hinting at the richer honeyed, fruity, and woody character the tea will gradually develop over the months and years ahead.

If you find it impossible to resist the freshness of this tea or wait for time to work its magic, you can also take a leap through the years with our aged Shou Mei from 2017 and 2000. Tasting them side by side reveals not only how this tea evolves, but perhaps the closest answer to the question of what time itself tastes like.

GONGFU CHA METHOD
  • Quantity: 3g / 100ml
  • Water temperature: 90°C

For best results in gongfu cha, brew in the traditional gaiwan or in a Yixing teapot. Too high water temperature would burn the leaves, resulting in bitter taste.
