Bai Mudan 2026
Taking its name from its appearance—a silvery-white bud surrounded by fresh green leaves—Bai Mudan, or White Peony, combines the delicacy of the bud-focused Bai Hao Yin Zhen with the broader character of the leaf-forward Shou Mei, both visually and in the cup.
The leaves introduce the tea with a translucent fruitiness: fresh, juicy, and quietly sweet, reminiscent of slightly underripe honeydew melon. As the session unfolds, the tightly packed buds gradually reveal themselves, enriching the liquor with a deeper, rounder sweetness that recalls warm beeswax. This gentle sweetness is ultimately balanced by a remarkably elegant finish, where the lingering sweetness slowly gives way to an airy, subtly tannic floral perfume, evocative of standing beneath a blossoming linden tree on a warm spring day.
Combining youthful freshness with a comforting, rounded sweetness, Bai Mudan is not merely a meeting point between two styles of white tea, but an expression with a personality entirely its own.

For best results in gongfu cha, brew in the traditional gaiwan or in a Yixing teapot. Too high water temperature would burn the leaves, resulting in bitter taste.
